WHY GENERIC DOES NOT WORK

Running a tiling business means battling material waste and inconsistent scheduling

Whether it's ordering too much tile, crews wasting material on poor cuts, or projects running long because you're not measuring properly. Here's what we see tiling business owners wrestling with:

Material waste eats your margins

Tiles cut wrong, ordered in wrong quantities, or damaged on site. Every percentage point of waste directly reduces profit. Most tilers accept this as normal - it's not.

You're underestimating project time

Surface prep, grouting, curing time. You quote based on feel, not measurement. Projects overrun, crew burns out, next client gets delayed. System wins.

Crews don't execute to your standard

You care about grout lines and tile placement. Your crew cuts corners. Quality varies by job. You end up on-site fixing work instead of selling next job.

You're not tracking material costs per job

You have no idea which jobs are actually profitable. You think you're making 30%, you're actually making 12%. No visibility = no way to improve.

You are the bottleneck for every decision in the business

Every quote, every tiler scheduling, every material specification, every customer concern flows through you. Your team waits for your input. Clients wait for your approval. You cannot step away without work stalling. That is not a scalable business.

You have no visibility on actual profit per job

You see the bank balance and think you are profitable. But you are not tracking real labour cost per square metre, tile breakage rates, rework time, or customer complaints. Some jobs make money. Some lose it. You have no data.

Built for Owners Whose Problems Are Not Simple

You have tried the group thing. You have sat in rooms with coaches who have never run a tiling business. You have done the courses. None of it was built for the complexity you are dealing with now. This is.

This is for you if

  • You're doing 20+ tile jobs per year and want to stop doing them all yourself
  • You've hired crews but quality or efficiency isn't where it should be
  • Material waste frustrates you - you know it's a leak but don't know how to plug it
  • You want to scale but you're worried about losing your standard
  • You're tired of managing cashflow around material orders

This is not for you if

  • You're a one-person operation with no plans to hire
  • You're only taking commercial contracts (different model entirely)
  • Your business is already systematised and you just want a sounding board
  • You're not willing to measure sites properly or track job costs
  • You see tiling as a one-off service rather than a repeatable business

They Were Where You Are. Here Is What Changed.

These tiling business owners were exactly where you are. Here is what changed.

A Structured Path From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be

Freedom Fighter is not a course. It is a structured, phase-matched training program. Your coach meets you at your current stage and builds the systems you need - in the right order - to move to the next one.

Phase 1

Foundation

You are the business. Subbie or sole trader, maybe one or two staff. The focus here is financial visibility, basic job management, and building the commercial foundation that everything else sits on. Most owners skip this and wonder why nothing works later.

Phase 2

Growth

You have tradies on the tools but no admin support. Revenue is growing but so is the chaos. This phase is about hiring your first office person, building standard operating procedures, and creating the structure that lets you step back from every job.

Phase 3

Expansion

You have tradies and admin but no operations manager. The business runs but still needs you for every major decision. This phase builds the leadership layer, delegation frameworks, and operational systems that let you start stepping away from day-to-day.

Phase 4

Scale

Full team in place. GM or operations manager running the business. This phase is custom - it is about refining what you have built, protecting your margins, planning your next move, and making sure the business continues to perform without you in it.

Your Coach. Your Business. Your Agenda.

Fortnightly Coaching. Same Time. Same Day.

This is not group training. Every session is a private conversation between you and your coach. Same time, same day, every fortnight. Focused entirely on your business, your challenges, and your next move. Accountability is built into the structure.

  1. Phase Assessment - Your coach identifies where you are and what needs to happen next. No guessing.
  2. System Build - Each session delivers a specific system, framework, or decision that moves your business forward.
  3. Implementation - You apply it between sessions. Your coach holds you accountable at the next one.
  4. Review & Adjust - What worked, what did not, what changes. Your plan evolves as your business does.
Typical Session Structure
Fortnightly. Zoom. Accountability.
  • Review progress since last session
  • Address your current blockers and challenges
  • Deliver the next system or framework for your phase
  • Set specific actions for the next fortnight
  • Same time, same coach, every fortnight. Consistency drives results.

What Happens When You Have the Right Coach

We were losing money on every residential job because material waste was destroying margins. After systematising our ordering process and measuring every site properly, waste dropped 18% and we stopped underbidding. In six months, we went from barely profitable to healthy margin.

+$45k profit annualised

We hired a second crew, but the quality was inconsistent. Greg's framework for documenting standards and training crew meant we could scale without compromising. Now both crews hit the same quality bar.

Scaled to 2 crews, same quality

I was doing all the quotes and scheduling myself. Implementing a simple quoting framework and site measurement system meant I could hand that off to my foreman. I got my time back.

Before and After Freedom Fighter

Before

  • You quote bathroom tiles by phone without measuring
  • Material orders are guesses - too much or too little every time
  • Crews cut tiles inefficiently, generating scrap
  • You're on every job troubleshooting quality
  • Each project feels like a separate business
  • You have no idea which jobs actually made money

After

  • Every quote includes a measured site assessment and material list
  • Material orders are calculated - you order what you need, nothing more
  • Crews follow a cutting standard - less scrap, predictable waste
  • Quality is documented in standards - crews execute, you manage
  • Systems repeat across every job - consistency becomes the default
  • You track actual cost per job and adjust pricing based on data

Freedom Fighter Is Built for Complex Businesses

This is not an entry-level program. It is built for tiling business owners who have outgrown generic advice and need structured, personalised support for the problems only they can see.

This is for you if

  • Your business has grown past what one person can manage alone
  • You have tried group programs or other coaches and they did not get your trade
  • Your problems are layered - HR, finance, operations, leadership - all at once
  • You want a coach from the trades who has helped hundreds scale, not someone who studied it
  • You are building for owner freedom - not just more revenue

This is not for you if

  • You want a magic bullet - this is structured, long-term work
  • You are not willing to change how your business operates
  • You think competing on price is a strategy
  • You want someone to do the work for you instead of with you
  • You are happy with how things are and not ready to commit to change

Before You Apply

How do you measure a site for tiling when every bathroom is different?
You measure length, width, height of all walls. You measure the floor. You document existing obstacles (vanities, pipes). You take photos. You calculate tile coverage from measurements, not gut feel. You get the quote right because you measured.
How do you stop material waste without losing time to efficiency?
Document your cutting standard - what cuts are worth doing on-site vs which get wasted. Train crews once. Let them execute. Measure scrap percentage per job. If it's creeping up, you retrain. Waste tracking is a leading indicator of crew quality.
How do you quote consistently when every tile job is unique?
You quote on three inputs: tile cost (locked with supplier), labour (hours based on square metres and complexity), margin. Once your labour rate per sqm is locked for your region and crew skill, quotes become consistent.
How do you make sure a second crew maintains your standard?
You document your standard in writing - what grout width you use, how you prep surfaces, how you handle corners, what you inspect before handover. You train to that standard. You inspect early jobs heavily. After three jobs, if they're hitting standard, you back off.
What if a client wants a tile I don't stock and can't get fast?
You give them three options upfront: (1) choose from your standard stock and go on schedule, (2) choose custom tile and extend timeline by X weeks, (3) choose custom tile and pay a project hold fee. Client decides. You don't eat delays.
How do you price bathroom renovations when you're only doing the tiles?
You price your labour and material separately. You don't price the whole reno. You quote 'tiles and grout for this bathroom: $X' based on sqm and complexity. The builder or client organises the rest.
How do you handle disputes about quality after job completion?
You document your standard upfront. You inspect and get client sign-off before you leave. You include that sign-off in your paperwork. If a dispute comes six weeks later, you have proof you delivered to spec. Clear documentation = no disputes.
