WHY GENERIC DOES NOT WORK

Week-to-week customers. Low margins. No predictable revenue.

Most gardeners live on one-off mowing or seasonal landscaping jobs. You can't predict next month's revenue. Customers disappear in winter. You chase volume to survive. You can't build a team because there's no recurring work.

Seasonal Dependency

Summer is busy with mowing and landscaping. Winter is dead. Revenue is feast-or-famine.

No Recurring Income

Every week you chase customers for next week's work. You have no contracts. No reason for customers to stay loyal.

Low Margin Work

Mowing is $50–$80 per visit. After fuel and labour, margins are 15–25%. You need high volume to hit targets.

Price Pressure

Customers compare mowing prices. You compete on rate. Margins shrink.

You are the bottleneck for every decision in the business

Every quote, every gardener dispatch, every design decision, every customer concern flows through you. Your team waits for your input. Clients wait for your approval. You cannot take time off without work stalling. That is not a business - that is a gardening job with extra liability.

You have no visibility on actual profit per job

You see money in the account and assume you are profitable. But you are not tracking real labour cost per project, plant and material waste, equipment utilisation, or maintenance callbacks. Some jobs make money. Some lose it. You operate blind.

Built for Owners Whose Problems Are Not Simple

You have tried the group thing. You have sat in rooms with coaches who have never run a gardening business. You have done the courses. None of it was built for the complexity you are dealing with now. This is.

This is for you if

  • You're tired of feast-or-famine revenue - maintenance contracts are predictable
  • You want to escape being a mower - you see yourself as a garden designer
  • You're willing to approach affluent neighbourhoods with maintenance plans - proactive marketing
  • You want year-round income - you'll offer design work in winter when mowing is slow
  • You want to build a team - scalable maintenance plans make that possible

This is not for you if

  • You love mowing and want to do more of it - you don't see design as core
  • You're not interested in marketing or sales - you prefer reactive inbound work
  • You're happy with seasonal work - you don't mind slow winter months
  • You think customers won't pay for design - you believe price-based competition is normal
  • You want to stay a solo operator - you're not interested in scaling

They Were Where You Are. Here Is What Changed.

These gardener business owners were exactly where you are. Here is what changed.

A Structured Path From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be

Freedom Fighter is not a course. It is a structured, phase-matched training program. Your coach meets you at your current stage and builds the systems you need - in the right order - to move to the next one.

Phase 1

Foundation

You are the business. Subbie or sole trader, maybe one or two staff. The focus here is financial visibility, basic job management, and building the commercial foundation that everything else sits on. Most owners skip this and wonder why nothing works later.

Phase 2

Growth

You have tradies on the tools but no admin support. Revenue is growing but so is the chaos. This phase is about hiring your first office person, building standard operating procedures, and creating the structure that lets you step back from every job.

Phase 3

Expansion

You have tradies and admin but no operations manager. The business runs but still needs you for every major decision. This phase builds the leadership layer, delegation frameworks, and operational systems that let you start stepping away from day-to-day.

Phase 4

Scale

Full team in place. GM or operations manager running the business. This phase is custom - it is about refining what you have built, protecting your margins, planning your next move, and making sure the business continues to perform without you in it.

Your Coach. Your Business. Your Agenda.

Fortnightly Coaching. Same Time. Same Day.

This is not group training. Every session is a private conversation between you and your coach. Same time, same day, every fortnight. Focused entirely on your business, your challenges, and your next move. Accountability is built into the structure.

  1. Phase Assessment - Your coach identifies where you are and what needs to happen next. No guessing.
  2. System Build - Each session delivers a specific system, framework, or decision that moves your business forward.
  3. Implementation - You apply it between sessions. Your coach holds you accountable at the next one.
  4. Review & Adjust - What worked, what did not, what changes. Your plan evolves as your business does.
Typical Session Structure
Fortnightly. Zoom. Accountability.
  • Review progress since last session
  • Address your current blockers and challenges
  • Deliver the next system or framework for your phase
  • Set specific actions for the next fortnight
  • Same time, same coach, every fortnight. Consistency drives results.

What Happens When You Have the Right Coach

I was doing one-off mowing at $70. Then I offered a monthly plan: $200/month for weekly mowing, seasonal tidy-ups, and a design consultation. Customers loved the predictability. I signed 40 customers. That's $8,000 per month guaranteed. I stopped chasing customers and started scheduling my life.

$8,000 monthly recurring revenue

Winter was dead because mowing slows down. I started offering winter landscape design: pathway renovation, hedge planting, tree removal planning. Winter revenue jumped from zero to $3,000 per month. Same customers, different work. Now I'm busy year-round.

Year-round revenue, winter income added

I was low-margin mowing only. I positioned myself as 'Garden Design and Maintenance' instead of 'lawn mowing.' Now I quote design + build + maintenance as packages. Design work is $2,000–$5,000 per job at 50% margin. Maintenance is recurring at $150/month. Revenue per customer went from $70/visit to $500/month. I'm doing fewer jobs but making more money.

Revenue per customer jumped 7x

Before and After Freedom Fighter

Before

  • Your revenue is 100% one-off jobs - mowing, landscaping, trimming
  • Summer is busy, winter is slow - feast or famine
  • Pricing is by-the-job and low: $50–$80 for mowing
  • Customers call when they need you - you chase them between jobs
  • Margins are thin because you're competing on mowing price
  • You can't scale without doing every job yourself

After

  • Your revenue is 60% recurring maintenance, 30% design/build projects, 10% seasonal work
  • Revenue is predictable year-round - maintenance contracts in summer and winter design work
  • Pricing is by-contract and higher: $150 for maintenance; $2,000–$5,000 for design
  • Customers are on plans - they don't cancel because switching would disrupt their garden schedule
  • Margins are higher because you're positioning as 'garden specialist' not 'cheap mowing'
  • You can scale with team members - they execute maintenance; you do design

Freedom Fighter Is Built for Complex Businesses

This is not an entry-level program. It is built for gardener business owners who have outgrown generic advice and need structured, personalised support for the problems only they can see.

This is for you if

  • Your business has grown past what one person can manage alone
  • You have tried group programs or other coaches and they did not get your trade
  • Your problems are layered - HR, finance, operations, leadership - all at once
  • You want a coach from the trades who has helped hundreds scale, not someone who studied it
  • You are building for owner freedom - not just more revenue

This is not for you if

  • You want a magic bullet - this is structured, long-term work
  • You are not willing to change how your business operates
  • You think competing on price is a strategy
  • You want someone to do the work for you instead of with you
  • You are happy with how things are and not ready to commit to change

Before You Apply

What should a monthly maintenance plan include?
Weekly mowing (or fortnightly, depending on season). Monthly tidy-up (edges, weeding, dead-heading). Seasonal work (spring planting, autumn clearing). Annual design consultation (small improvements, advice). Price: $150 depending on yard size and location. Include seasonal adjustment clause: mowing pauses July–August in colder regions.
How do I price garden design work?
Design + build package. Consultation and site measure: $250 (credited if they hire you). Concept plans: $500–$1,000. Build and install: $2,000–$5,000 depending on scope. Typical package: $3,500–$4,500 for 100–200 sqm garden redesign. 50% upfront, 50% on completion.
What winter services can I offer?
Garden design and landscape planning (when summer gardens are fully visible). Winter pruning and hedge renovation. Pathway and patio work. Tree removal planning. Mulching and soil improvement. Shade structure design. All of these can be quoted and built in winter when mowing slows.
How many maintenance customers can I manage solo?
10–15 weekly mowing customers (one day per week). Plus 5–8 fortnightly customers (one day per fortnight). Plus design/build work (2–3 per month). Total: 40–50 active customers solo. Beyond that, hire a second gardener.
Should I offer design services if I'm not trained?
Not as a designer. Offer as a 'garden stylist' or 'garden consultant.' Focus on what customers can see: colour, structure, maintenance-friendly layouts. Work with existing plants. Suggest improvements. If a customer wants full redesign, partner with a landscape architect (they do the design, you do the build) or upskill with a landscape design course first.
How do I transition a mowing customer to a full plan?
'Hi [Customer], I've been mowing your garden for [X] months. I'd like to offer you a maintenance plan that includes mowing, seasonal tidy-ups, and an annual design consultation. It's $200/month instead of $70 per visit. You get consistency, I get predictability. Interested?' Most say yes because it's easier than arranging each visit.
Can I subcontract work to other gardeners?
Yes - once you have 30+ maintenance customers, hire a subcontractor to handle some mowing. You keep the customer relationship and design authority. They do the execution. You scale revenue without doubling your hours. Subcontractor rate: $30–$40/hour; you charge customer $40–$50/hour; your margin is $10–$20/hour.
