Tradies! Ready to level up your business? It’s time to get SMART about your goals!
S – SPECIFIC
M – MEASURABLE
A – ACHIEVABLE
R – RELEVANT
T – TIME BASED
Follow on if you want to create goals that are clear, actionable and effective!
So, how do you apply these goals to your trade business?
Â
S is for SPECIFIC
Your goals need to be specific – that means well defined and clear. Instead of choosing your goal to be ‘I want to grow my business’ set your goal with more detail, for example ‘I want to increase my revenue by 25% this quarter’. By being more specific, you have a clear aim and an actual target to work towards.
Â
M is for MEASURABLE
Now you have to make sure your goal is measurable. If your goal is to increase revenue by 25%, how can you keep track of that progress? You should be able to measure your figueres each month and make sure you’re heading in the right direction.
Â
A is for ACHIEVABLE
While ambition and vision is important, it’s more important not to set goals you cant realistically achieve right now. For example, if you can’t afford to hire more tradies right now, then having a goal to increase your workload is probably not too realistic.
Â
R is for RELEVANT
Your goals should be relevant to you and your business. For example, if sustainability is important to you, you might set a goal that reduces your carbon footprint, or you might dispose of old materials sustainably. Your goals should be relative to your business and reflect your values.
Â
T is for TIME
Setting a timeframe in which to complete your goal is key. Otherwise, you have nothing to work towards! Keeping focused and motivated with a deadline looming keeps you accountable and proactive in achieving your goals.
Tradies, if you follow these SMART goals – you’re well on your way to achieving your business goals! Start them now and see the difference it makes!
